Holy Basil- The Oriental Herb

In the Orient, the word ‘Tulsi’ needs little introduction. An essential part of the Indian culture, Tulsi is more than a mere herb. Revered as a deity by the Hindu community, Holy Basil is a medicinal plant found in the lowlands of India and other countries like Pakistan, Myanmar and Sri Lanka. Known as the queen of herbs, Holy Basil is renowned for its spiritual and religious significance and has at the same time carved a niche for itself in the traditional Indian system of medicine.

Research suggests that Holy Basil has certain anti-inflammatory properties that reduce swelling and pain. It supports detoxification and provides relief in cases of respiratory disorders. Holy Basil leaves are beneficial for people suffering from immunological disorders, allergies and asthma. It is also believed to be helpful in the regulation of blood sugar levels in the body. A medicinal plant, Tulsi is a proven remedy for cough and cold, stomach inflammation, bacterial and viral infections, radiation poisoning, cataract and high blood sugar levels.  Tulsi is also known to have analgesic properties, due to a high concentration of Eugenol.

Regarded as the ‘Elixir of Life’, Tulsi is known to promote longevity and robust health.  An ancient herb with diverse healing properties, Tulsi is considered to be an adaptogen which balances and tones the energetic ‘Chakra’ system of the human body. Oil extracted from Karpoora Tulsi leaves is widely used for its remedial purposes and also forms an active ingredient in herbal cosmetics. The herb is often used in medical preparations for Asthma and bronchial trouble. Holy Basil also improves the blood circulation of the body. The anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties of the herb help the body to fight off damaging free radicals which are believed to cause aging and disease. On a larger scale, Holy Basil balances the mind, body and emotions and counters the ill-effects of stress and anxiety.
